small wood building with sign above porch Old Red School House 1861-1915

The Association’s purpose was to preserve the schoolhouse as a place of welcome where alumni could return and reconnect with wholesome values learned in childhood, close to nature.

The image above is from an undated postcard. Built in 1861, the school was taken out of service for a variety of reasons, some of which are explored in this Vermont Public program. The building is a private home.

The school was built on the former site of a church, that was moved. The barn visible at the right is just up the road on Minister Hill. It belonged with the former minister’s house, which is still present today.
